How to Get Luckier on Your Fitness Journey
This St. Paddy's day, I had a wild hair which led to four big ideas for how to become "luckier" on your fitness journey.

A Green Spin on Fitness Luck
Last month, Amanda and I went on a quick road trip over St. Paddy’s Day weekend.
We had Friday and Saturday off (which is a rare event for us) so we decided to leave the cat home alone and drive 5 ½ hours over to the burbs of Chicago to visit my parents.
When we reached their neighborhood it was like a war-zone with heavy machinery, dirt covering the road and yellow-hatted construction workers storming around. As we approached my parent’s house something didn’t look right. There was a sedan-sized hole in the driveway with a construction worker in it.
He popped his head up like a groundhog in the spring, grabbed a large jug of water blocking the way and waved us into the driveway.
When we walked into the house, we learned the water lines were being replaced. That meant we were under a boil order and couldn’t drink the water. Fortunately my brother Dominick had stocked up.
Not that day.
Not intentionally for that weekend.
But for months he had been in the habit of picking up a gallon each time he went to the grocery store. So my family had slowly accumulated several dozen gallons of water. So they were prepared for the boil order without even realizing it.
Some would call this lucky. Some would call it thorough preparation. Whatever the case, it reminds me of the quote (attributed to Seneca):
“Luck is when preparation meets opportunity.”
The idea of luck in fitness has been on my mind lately (thanks to St. Paddy’s day). And I have a green spin to put on this topic that I believe will help you achieve greater results this spring (and beyond).
How can we become luckier on our fitness journey?
While I think luck is a tiny fraction of success in fitness (work ethic, persistence and progression rank far higher on the list) in this issue I’ll share some ideas on how to become ‘luckier’ in fitness. More than that, they will help you utilize whatever type of luck or situation comes your way.
Because no matter who you are – something unexpected always shows up the moment we declare to pursue a worthy goal. It never goes quite as we imagined. And sometimes (if we stick with it), it goes better than we imagined.
Let’s do it,
